    Vyshkilnyj Camp – Виховно-Вишкільний Табір

Vyshkilnyj Camp is a comprehensive multi-week leadership training program designed to prepare young adults for volunteer work and leadership roles within their CYM Oseredok and CYM summer camps. Serving as the first step toward becoming a leader in the organization, this counselor-in-training camp helps participants discover their hidden talents and gain the skills needed to become not just counselors and educators in their local branches, but future leaders of CYM.

The program covers essential topics such as child psychology and development, religion, CYM organizational knowledge and history, and Ukrainian culture. Through these subjects, attendees gain a deeper understanding of Ukraine’s past, present, and cultural heritage.

Graduates of Vyshkilnyj Camp frequently serve as junior counselors at CYM summer camps and continue their leadership development by contributing as educators in their home chapters during the school year. Since all training is conducted in Ukrainian, proficiency in the language is required for participation.

Prerequisites: Finished 9th grade, attended at least 1 camp as a starshe yunatstvo and must be a member of CYM.

    Starshyj Camp – Старшоюнацький Табір

Starshyj Vidpochynkovyj Camp is a two-week experience for youth ages 13-16, designed for young men and women who are not yet eligible for Vyshkilnyj Camp. This program acts as a crucial stepping stone on their CYM journey, helping them build a solid foundation for future leadership roles. Once they complete 9th grade, campers are encouraged to take the next step by enrolling in Vyshkil.

The camp offers an exciting and well-rounded program that immerses participants in the values of CYM, friendship, and connection with nature. Throughout their days, campers engage in meaningful activities, including learning about CYM’s mottos and key anniversaries, singing, sports, swimming, and teamwork-focused projects. In addition to their own schedule, campers collaborate with Vyshkilnyj Camp on selected activities, further enhancing their experience.

At Starshyj Vidpochynkovyj Camp, campers will form lasting friendships, learn about the heroes of Ukraine, and enjoy the stunning natural surroundings.

With its dynamic program and diverse activities, this camp helps youth strengthen their CYM identity, develop valuable life skills, and prepare for the exciting challenges of the next phase in their journey!

Serving as a stepping stone between Sumenyata day camp and Vidpochynkovyj sleep-away camp, this program helps children build independence, confidence, and friendships in a supportive environment.

Throughout the week, campers engage in activities such as singing, sports, swimming, and learning about annual mottos, special anniversaries, and the core values of CYM. Parents remain on-site at Oselia, with children sleeping at home from Sunday to Tuesday before transitioning to sleeping at camp from Wednesday to Saturday. This gradual adjustment helps ease the transition into a full sleep-away camp experience.

Upon completing Perekhodovyj Camp, families have the option to extend their child’s stay for a second week at Molodshyj Vidpochynkovyj Camp. To secure a spot, registration for the second week must be completed during the designated registration period.

Labor Day Weekend at Oselia CYM 2024

Laboy Day weekend at Oselia CYM in Ellenville, NY, was a lively celebration for Cymivtsi of all ages. As usual, attendees camped in tents, motorhomes, and pop-up campers, while others stayed in the hotel or bungalows. Groups gathered to enjoy each other’s company, with one even setting up an outdoor table tennis table.

The festivities kicked off with a swim meet featuring over 40 participants in various age groups from 6 and under up to 18 years old. On Sunday afternoon, there were several hours of soccer with several teams that included molodsti and starshi yunatsvo. The sporting events were organized and run by Ulana Pryjmak, Bohdan Pryjmak, Monica Wolf and Josh Wolf. They were able to raise over $1000 for Oselia CYM.

The kids’ carnival offered a variety of fun activities, including:

      • Cotton candy
      • Games
      • A bounce house
      • A ride-on car track at the tennis courts

Throughout the weekend, fresh food was served at the Polovnia Kyxnia including Varenyky, Cheeseburgers, Borscht, Holoptsi, Kobasa and Bylkas.

A BBQ picnic took place at the pavilion, where Kryova Uprava celebrated 75 years of CYM in America with a hearty BBQ dinner that filled the tables with delicious food.

Although a rainstorm threatened the vatra, Cymivtsi patiently waited for it to pass, allowing the evening to feature live music by Peter Drobenko and Peter Kolinsky.

Under the pavilion, a vibrant zabava unfolded with the Volya Ukrainian Band. Children enjoyed their own festivities as the band warmed up, while adults danced late into the night.

On Sunday morning, a zbirka was held before church mass to gather Cymivtsi in their odnostri. Following the service, Bohdan Harhaj and Lesia Harhaj-Kudryk delivered brief speeches to officially conclude the summer CYM season.

Dinner was a delightful buffet at Dibrova Bar, enjoyed by all attendees. To wrap up the weekend, young Cymivtsi were treated to a movie night complete with fresh popcorn and a pop-up candy store.
