Labor Day Weekend at Oselia CYM 2024
Laboy Day weekend at Oselia CYM in Ellenville, NY, was a lively celebration for Cymivtsi of all ages. As usual, attendees camped in tents, motorhomes, and pop-up campers, while others stayed in the hotel or bungalows. Groups gathered to enjoy each other’s company, with one even setting up an outdoor table tennis table.
The festivities kicked off with a swim meet featuring over 40 participants in various age groups from 6 and under up to 18 years old. On Sunday afternoon, there were several hours of soccer with several teams that included molodsti and starshi yunatsvo. The sporting events were organized and run by Ulana Pryjmak, Bohdan Pryjmak, Monica Wolf and Josh Wolf. They were able to raise over $1000 for Oselia CYM.
The kids’ carnival offered a variety of fun activities, including:
- Cotton candy
- Games
- A bounce house
- A ride-on car track at the tennis courts
Throughout the weekend, fresh food was served at the Polovnia Kyxnia including Varenyky, Cheeseburgers, Borscht, Holoptsi, Kobasa and Bylkas.
A BBQ picnic took place at the pavilion, where Kryova Uprava celebrated 75 years of CYM in America with a hearty BBQ dinner that filled the tables with delicious food.
Although a rainstorm threatened the vatra, Cymivtsi patiently waited for it to pass, allowing the evening to feature live music by Peter Drobenko and Peter Kolinsky.
Under the pavilion, a vibrant zabava unfolded with the Volya Ukrainian Band. Children enjoyed their own festivities as the band warmed up, while adults danced late into the night.
On Sunday morning, a zbirka was held before church mass to gather Cymivtsi in their odnostri. Following the service, Bohdan Harhaj and Lesia Harhaj-Kudryk delivered brief speeches to officially conclude the summer CYM season.
Dinner was a delightful buffet at Dibrova Bar, enjoyed by all attendees. To wrap up the weekend, young Cymivtsi were treated to a movie night complete with fresh popcorn and a pop-up candy store.
